Emerging Trends
There are some emerging trends within the field instructional design which have been put in the spotlight because of it is potential to make our lives easier while improving the learner experience. One of these areas of interest has be gamification. As instructional designers, our job is to make meaningful content that will not only engage learners but make a lasting impression that hopefully can be stored as long-term memory. Not all curriculum ends up this way. However, one way to help with the learning process is providing gamification styled content. It gives a more interactive way to learn while learning into different learning styles and create a multisensory learning environment. Multisensory learning environment can help produce a positive learning environment which can help with learning and memory.
Another emerging trend that is impacting instructional design is the advent of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence has many great uses. It can be used to generate templates for content that we wish to create, can help with brainstorming, as well as man other applications we are still learning about. With the interest in Artificial Intelligence there is a lot of potential with this technology, and it could our everyday lives easier (Bodily et al., 2019). Another way AI can be used is through creating captions and closed captioning. Before designing closed captions could be time consuming and labor intensive. With AI it eliminates the need to have someone do recordings or voice over work. There is no need to have create a script, to have an individual record their voice, and the create content. With AI we can used the software to created closed captions within minutes which cuts time and cost. The only consideration is that not all organizations are on are willing to use AI due to the perceived risk that is involved.
