Professional Reflection and Main Takeaways

There is a lot of difference things that I have learned on my journey pursing my Master’s in Instructional Design. As simple as it may seem one of my main takeaways is the importance of storyboarding. Storyboarding can help enhance not only the design process but the learning process as well. It relies on strategies such as logically ordering and sequence the modules. By sequencing the content in a logical way, it can help learners with cognitive load while also helping scan for redundant information. Storyboarding can also help instructional designers and other stakeholders identify gaps in content, timing issues, and short comings to instructional solutions.

Outside of organization and removing redundant information, storyboarding can also scaffolded information Starting with basic and prerequisite skills and leading the learner to something more complex. It can help create a roadmap for the learning content. Storyboarding can also be used in conjunction with other strategies such as leveraging multisensory environment and multimedia learning which can help accommodate for different learning styles.

Lastly, storyboarding is also supported by current literature. It has been known to effectively help learners, one meta-analysis that examined literature from 2015-2020, found that storyboarding can help elementary students with understanding and sequencing mathematical ideas. When storyboarding is done effectively, it can help learning outcome for students, such as improved assessment scores (Fadzil et al., 2025). There is a lot that I have learned during this graduate program, but storyboarding is one of the many things that stands out.

My Professional Work and Honesty

Honesty, integrity, and professional strengths are concepts that have been instilled in me long before my interest in the career field of instructional design. Similar core values were instilled in me Air Force with the core values of: Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all that we do. Even after honorable separating from the Air Force, my time at USAA is no different when it comes to operating with a moral compass and doing what is right. Even now where I work their core values are: honesty, integrity, loyalty, and service.

These core values were taken straight from the core values of the U.S. Air Forces. Regarding how I how to achieve this in instructional design I will continue to follow these values by create accurate and truthful content. I will make sure that the information I provide is accurate to the best of my abilities to hold myself accountable I will ensure that the business process owners and legal vet my work before I do any type of publishing. This also helps with transparency and all stakeholders understand what stage I am in for my content creation. Further, I will make sure that the content is written in a way that all learners can easily understand.

I will ensure that content is multisensory so all different types of learners can process the information, while creating a positive learning environment so that they can get involved. My goals fall in line with Canyon Center for Character Education Professional Competencies modelling virtuous actions and developing instructional design.
